arry Pidgeon were the second person to circumnavigate the globe, 27 years after Joshua Slocum. But unlike Slocum, who is a professional captain who spent his whole life at sea, Pidgeon has no sailing experiences of any kind prior to his voyage. In 1917, aged 45, he spent one and a half year building Islander, a 34′ yawl from plan he found in the book How To Build a Cruising Yawl, then set out for a 4 years circumnavigation. In 1932, he go around the world another time which took 5 years. He married the first time in 1944, when he’s already 72 years old, and in 1947, the couple set out for a third circumnavigation, but the boat were wrecked in a typhoon a year later. He then tried building another boat, but before he could sail again, death took him at the age of 81.
