the red army choir – 2

istinctively characterized by fast tempos, lively rythms, beautiful melodies, and usually with very “major” moods, Russian folk songs are energetic, full – of – life, and thus very interesting. Taken the song “Farewell of Slavianka” for example, there’re various different verses made for one same tune: the Tsarist version, the Soviet versions, the “Putin era” versions… That speaks up one thing: while wordings could be changed across different periods of history, the tune stays the same, which helps forming up the “national identity” that’s passed down for many generations.
